A bit about me and how I work
I am a warm, compassionate and empathic therapist based in South London but working online. I work with my clients in a collaborative, respectful and non-judgmental way. I believe passionately in the benefits of therapy and the difference it can make to our lives.
My journey to becoming a therapist was shaped by my experience working in journalism and photojournalism having spent many years working in newsrooms, covering some of the most iconic news stories of our time. Working with photographers and editors I came to appreciate the mental toll that witnessing challenging imagery can take on your mental health, I know it did mine. I faced burnout, I became disassociated to the often visually challenging imagery of my work and began to realise the stress my job was putting me and my body under. I left the industry and after taking time out, decided to retrain as a therapist. I have used my lived experience to explore the toll that challenging workplace experiences can place on our emotional stability and mental wellbeing.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This is the UK’s leading governing body for counselling professionals and ensures that my work with clients is safe, ethical and meets the highest standards of professionalism.
Working as an integrative therapist means that I use my knowledge to draw on a number of therapeutic theories and apply them to our work, ensuring that you feel fully supported as we journey through our work together. I am naturally drawn towards a person-centred approach - putting you front and centre to the work and establishing a respectful and trusting relationship, creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for you. With me, your therapeutic journey will be collaborative, together we will explore your needs ensuring you feel heard and fully supported at all times.
My work supports people navigating a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including:
Anxiety and depression
Workplace burnout
Career stress
Low self-esteem and self-doubt
Relationship difficulties
Low mood and changed behaviours
Perimenopause, menopause and post menopause
Chronic pain and illness
Visual impairment and blindness
Young adults (16+)
Through my work with the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) I have experience in counselling blind people and those with visual impairments. Offering time limited therapy to a diverse range of clients, many of whom have lost their sight due to chronic illness and traumatic life event, I give the space and support to explore the challenges and emotional upheaval of sight loss and the impact it has on their lives.
I also work with the BRIT School, the UK’s leading Performing and Creative Arts School based in South London, offering time limited therapy to young people who are navigating the often challenging and bewildering transition into adulthood. Offering a safe environment and an opportunity to explore whatever is going on for them, allowing them to feel heard and understood has been deeply rewarding and it’s a privilege that my clients feel comfortable enough within our relationship to share their worries and concerns with me. At this crossroads in life, many young people can feel anxiety and overwhelm and my approach to our work - calm, empathic, kind is always at the heart of my therapeutic approach.
Life is rarely plain sailing, it can sometimes feel hard and overwhelming, and my clients can often present with behaviours and thoughts that they find challenging. From suicide ideation to self-harm or eating disorders, whatever your issue, we will work together to explore and better understand what is going on for you and help you gain better insight into your mental wellbeing.
Your safety, trust and confidentiality are paramount throughout the therapeutic process. My work is collaborative, you won’t be a bystander to your therapy, we work together to build a better understanding of what is going on.
As a member of the BACP, it is a requirement of my membership that I meet regularly with my clinical supervisor. It’s part of the ethical code that I adhere to and ensures that I am working safely and in good practice with all my clients.
I hold enhanced DBS clearance and professional liability insurance, this ensures the highest standards of care and protection for my clients.
