FAQs
What is therapy?
Seems like a good question to start with. In a nutshell, chatting, but with a difference. Instead of chatting to a friend, seeking their advice over a coffee, you’ll be talking to a trained professional, which is where I come in. My job is to work with you to peel back the many layers of your life to help you better undertand your thoughts, behaviours, motivations and relationships. Clients often ask what I think they should do and that’s where a therapist is different from a friend, we don’t tell you what to do, we don’t have the answers but together, we will explore what it is that’s troubling you, areas of your life that you’re finding challenging, ways to cope with the stresses and strains that crop up and how you can better understand yourself and improve your mental wellbeing.
How do I know if I need therapy?
Only you know what you’re really feeling and thinking but, if you’re noticing some challenges in how you’re seeing life, you’re feeling stuck in some way, perhaps you’ve become angry recently, your mood is low, you’re in a pattern of behaviour or relationships that is bringing up difficulties, you’re struggling to overcome a life event or you just want to try and understand yourself a bit better then you can certainly benefit from therapy. There’s no hard or fast rule, there are no set reasons, everyone is different. In my experience most people can benefit from the therapeutic process and exploration in a safe and compassionate environment.
How long should I come to therapy for?
That’s entirely up to you. I offer time limited or open ended and when we chat we’ll agree on what suits you best. Therapy is a commitment, both personally and financially and I work with you to get the most out of that commitment but this is your therapy, you make the decisions.
Are sessions in-person or online and how long is each appoinment?
For client flexibility I offer online or telephone sessions and I’m experienced in both. Each session lasts for 50 minutes.
How much does it cost and how do I pay?
I charge £65 per session with a discount for pre-paid block bookings. I do offer concessions on request and subject to availability. Payment is made via BACS transfer before each session.
Whats your cancellation policy?
I ask for 72 hours notice for any cancellations otherwise you will be charged the full rate. However, sometimes life can throw up some last minute challenges and in some instances we can simply rescehdule.
It’s tricky to get out of work in the day, do you offer sessions in the evening?
I do offer some evening sessions, subject to availability. I try to be as flexible as possible with clients and this is something we can discuss during your free 15 minute consultation.
